Privacy Policy

Last updated: 22 October 2026

GoApps makes Puddle. This is what the app does with your information.

The short version

  • No accounts and no advertising.
  • Puddle sends two things: a location, rounded to about five kilometres before it leaves your device, and a count of which features get used, which carries nothing about you and no location.

Your location

With your permission the app reads your location to show the weather where you are. Before any request leaves your device that location is rounded to a grid of about five kilometres, so the services answering see a town-sized area rather than an address.

Refuse the permission and search for a place by name instead; then your location is never read.

Who receives it

A rounded location, and the counts described below. Nothing else about you.

  • Our server, run for us by Cloudflare. It caches forecasts by area for minutes to hours, and logs which area and when — nothing that identifies you.
  • Open-Meteo. The forecast and air quality. Our server asks; your device never does.
  • Apple. Rain in the next hour, and weather warnings. Your device asks Apple directly, so Apple sees the rounded location and your IP address. Warning requests also carry the country code, which Apple needs to answer for the right country. Apple's privacy policy applies.
  • TelemetryDeck, for the feature counts below. It never receives a location.

What we count

So we can tell which parts of the app are worth keeping, Puddle records when you change a setting or put a reading on the chart. Each one is a single word from a fixed list:

  • which reading you chart
  • your style, units and clock
  • roughly how many places you have saved — never the number
  • which forecast model you choose

Searching for a place

What you type goes to Apple Maps, to be turned into a list of places.

On your device

Saved places, unit preferences and the latest forecast are stored on your device, and a saved place records its country. With iCloud on, places and settings sync between your iPhone and Apple Watch through your own iCloud account, which we cannot see.

The daily summary is written on your device by the model built into it, on hardware that supports it. Nothing is sent anywhere to produce it.

What we never collect

No name, email, account, contacts, photos, health data or purchases. No advertising identifiers.

Nothing Puddle records is joined to what you do in any other app or on any website, and none of it is sold, or given to advertisers or data brokers. The feature counts above are the only thing any third party receives. None of them is a location, and none says what the weather was — with the one exception that a national forecast model implies the region it covers.

Keeping and deleting

Forecasts are cached by area for minutes to hours, then discarded. Nothing in them says who asked.

Feature counts are kept by TelemetryDeck as anonymous totals. Because they arrive under a scrambled code that cannot be traced back to a device, there is no way to find yours in order to show or remove them.

We hold nothing that identifies you, so there is nothing to export or delete on our side. Deleting the app removes what it stored on your device; anything in iCloud goes through your iCloud settings.

Children

Suitable for all ages, not directed at children, and it collects nothing that identifies anyone of any age.

Changes

If the app starts doing something different with your information, this page changes before that version ships.
